We would rather hear about a mistake than leave it on the site.
Reporting an error
Email [email protected] with "Correction" in the subject line, and include:
- the article — its title or the link
- what is wrong
- what it should say, if you know
- a source we can check, if you have one
You do not need to give us a reason, and you do not need to be an expert.
What we do with it
We check the point against the underlying source. If we got it wrong, we fix it.
How we mark corrections
Factual error. We correct the article, update the "last checked" date, and add a note at the top saying what was wrong and when it was fixed. We do not delete the record of the error.
Facts changed after publication. Rules, rates and figures change. Where an article has been overtaken by events, we update it and note the change. This is not a correction — it is an update — and we distinguish between the two.
Typographical errors. Spelling, punctuation and broken links are fixed without a note.
Not an error. If we think the article is right, we will tell you why and point you at the source. If you disagree, write back. We have been wrong about being right before.
What we will not do
We will not remove an accurate article because someone dislikes it. If an article is accurate and fairly reported, a request to take it down will be declined.
We will not remove a source link because the source has become inconvenient.
We will consider requests involving personal safety. If publication of something puts an identifiable person at risk, tell us and we will look at it seriously and quickly.
Response times
We aim to acknowledge within two working days and to resolve within five. Anything involving a safety risk is handled immediately.
